"The Midnight Witness”

A book by Sara Blaedel.

It's not a newly published book but I listened to it recently and really enjoyed it. When I read, I look for likable characters going through something I can relate to. The plot must flow, but the characters are my main focus. It doesn't hurt if there is an unexpected twist or two along the way ;-).

In Sara Blaedel's "The Midnight Witness", I found what I like.

I would have loved to share a link to an English webpage, but as far as I can find, this doesn't exist anymore. But I'm sure you'll find the book by entering "The Midnight Witness" into a search bar.

In the book (book 1 in a series), we follow the young homicide detective Louise Rick. There are, of course, murders, and we see Louise work as a detective, but a large portion of the book is more about Louise and her life. This includes her personal feelings about being a homicide detective and how it affects her, but also more trivial things about love and friendships. Though I'm almost twenty years older than Louise, I found a lot of the things she goes through relatable. And I thoroughly enjoyed her friendship-entanglements with the journalist Camilla. I hope we all get to meet a "Camilla" at some point in our life.

The book was a bit slow sometimes for my liking, but then it picked up speed in other parts, so that made up for it. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I will definitely read the next book in the series soon.
